·把思维融入语言
思维和语言是相互依存、相互促进的,语言是现实的思维,是思维的物质外壳;语言的外壳又总是包含着思维的内容。
思维的发展推动语言的发展,语言的发展又促进思维的发展,在语言学习中培养学生的思维品质也是英语学科核心素养的基本要求之一。
那么如何在学习语言的同时将思维能力的培养与提升恰当地融入进去呢?
以人教版新教材选择性必修一第二单元Looking into the Future为例:
本单元的主题是展望未来,“未来”就可以发挥自身想象力,有很大的思维空间,可以引导学生联想到很多方面的事情,也可以由此学习到不少新词汇的使用,如:
What kind of efficient or automatic appliances do you think will be widely used in the future?
There are potential dangers in electricity safety, and automatic power-off is also a kind of artificial intelligence.
We advocate the use of big data, which can accurately predict the prospect of different occupations.
They aren’t sure about the security of cloning. Hence they strongly oppose it.Nevertheless, there are still many crimes related to cloning.
They were constantly warned to change their daily routine and lifestyle and not to drink too much instant coffee, but they didn’t obey and unfortunately gotcancer. Luckily, it was discovered early on, and nanobots can help to cure.
教师可以将生活、安全、健康、环保等话题巧妙引入,让学生尽可能使用本单元词汇去谈论、运用,这样不仅用到了语言,更是拓宽了思维,激发了学习兴趣,比单纯死记硬背单词效果会好很多。

·把文化渗入语言
语言和文化是相互沉淀、相互辅助,流传而成的,语言其实是文化的一部分,但是文化也是依赖于语言来进行传播的。
每个民族都有自己的文化,东西方文化不同,表达方式也有所不同,因此,我们需要了解彼此文化,才能得体地使用语言进行交际。英语学科核心素养中要培养学生的文化意识也正是基于此。
那么什么样的语境才能更好地将文化渗入到语言学习之中呢?
以人教版新教材选择性必修一第四单元Body Language为例,“What I hide by my language, my body utters”,不同的国家和地区,在口语、书面语,甚至肢体语言上会千差万别。
如:
The meaning of some gestures vary in different countries. In Japan, someone who witnessesanother person employing the gesture for OK might think it means money. In France, a person encountering an identical gesture may interpret it as meaning zero. However, if you use that gesture in Brazil and Germany, you’ll feel embarrassed, because it always means impolite.
此外,一些语言中常用的固定表达,也会因受到其文化影响而不同,如:
本单元中的词汇cheek的常用搭配turn the other cheek,其字面意思是“(一边脸挨了打),还把另一边脸也送上”,英文可解释为:
make a deliberate decision to remain calm and not to act in an aggressive way when somebody has hurt you or made you angry
故此结合中国文化可以译为:(受到伤害或被激怒时)甘心容忍,不予回击。
另外,还可以在一些单词学习中结合语言的发展,加入词根的拓展,如:
本单元词汇pose来自词根pos-(摆放),字面意思就是“摆放(身体)”。词根pos-(摆放)和各种表示方位的前缀组合起来,就可以构成各种pose(姿势)。由此可以联想到:
摆放在对面(ob-)就是oppose(反对);
摆放在前面(pur-)就是purpose(企图);
摆放到一起(com-)就是compose(组成);
向前(pro-)摆就是propose(提议);
向外(ex-)摆就是expose(暴露);
分开(dis-)摆就是dispose(处置)等。
总之,词汇教学的最终目的是培养学生自发地、高效地激活词汇的能力。
新高考对学生词汇的掌握提出了更多新的要求。因此,教师务必要有效地提高英语词汇教学效果,了解学生在学习过程中存在的问题,采取有效的教学方法,并重视学法方面的指导,使其掌握一定的词汇学习技巧和策略。
